On September 7-9, the Museum will again host the greatest single event aimed at preserving the musical legacy of the "Father of Bluegrass," Bill Monroe. Now in its second year, a faculty consisting of some of the greatest ambassadors of Monroe-style mandolin practitioners will assemble to examine issues related to the development and execution of Monroe's mandolin style.

Each instructor will present workshops on a number of subjects including specific eras in the evolution of Monroe’s style, his unique right-hand technique, and the blues, fiddle, and church music that helped to shape Monroe’s musical expression.

Monroe’s influence on modern bluegrass and mandolin music cannot be overstated. Similarly, one needs only to look at the leading contemporary players to see that a rigorous study of Monroe’s music is the quintessential base for mastering an important part of America’s musical language.

The Monroe-Style Mandolin Camp is the definitive gathering spot for Monroe enthusiasts, from beginners to advanced. With registration capped at 45 students, the camp’s intimate environment allows for ample opportunities to receive personal attention from the legends of Monroe-style mandolin. New in 2007 will be a visit to Monroe’s hometown of Rosine, Kentucky, where Bill, his parents, and his Uncle Pen are buried. For $500, camp participants receive three days of rigorous instruction, two nights at the Hampton Inn, a legendary concert, special edition camp t-shirts, great meals, unparalleled commaraderie, and a non-stop jammin' experience. Commuter (non-hotel staying) rates are also available.

Sign up here to attend the 2007 Monroe-Style Mandolin Camp. Only a few spots remain. Thanks to Mandolin Cafe for the great publicity, and to Hampton Inn, Kentucky Arts Council, Collings Guitars, Weber Mandolins, D'Addario Strings for their sponsorships!
