Four New exhibits Opening at the Bluegrass Music Museum

  • Owensboro, KY, October 24, 2007:  On November 3rd, 2007 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM The International Bluegrass Music Museum in downtown Owensboro will hold a Gala Opening of 4 new exhibits focusing on 3 members of the Bluegrass Hall of Honor and Tennessee bluegrass band, The McCormick Brothers.
  • The Hall of Honor exhibits are dedicated to bluegrass pioneers Pete Kuykendall, Lance Leroy and Bill Vernon.
  • Another exhibit celebrates the career of Hickory recording artists, The McCormick Brothers.
  • The historic exhibits contain photos, record contracts, instruments, radio equipment and clothing that document these forerunner’s contributions to bluegrass music.
  • Pete Kuykendall worked as a disc jockey, banjo player, and journalist but is most recognized as the founder and publisher of Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine.
  • Bill Vernon was a long-time Virginia radio DJ and journalist with a sincere love for bluegrass music. His collection of over 7,000 bluegrass recordings now reside within the Bluegrass Museum and are soon to be digitally archived for future generations.
  • Lance Leroy has been one of the most influential “behind the scenes” figures in bluegrass music. He began his career in 1969 as booking agent for singer Lester Flatt and went on to form the Lancer Agency which was one of the first booking agencies in the genre. In addition to Flatt, The Lancer Agency handled Jimmy Martin, Bluegrass Cardinals, Del McCoury and the Johnson Mountain Boys.
  • “We are extremely excited to open this new exhibit space in which to honor our bluegrass legends and hope to see lots of bluegrass fans for the opening!” said Museum Curator, Liz Fuhrman Bragg.
  • The International Bluegrass Museum is open from 10 until 5 Monday-Saturday and 1 until 4 on Sundays. The museum is located at 117 Daviess Street, Owensboro, KY.   

 
The International Bluegrass Music Museum is the only museum of its kind in the world and is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of bluegrass music for fans around the world.
